Vicat Softening Temperature

Thermoplastic
materials are softened and melted at certain temperature when
heat is applied to such materials. There is a specific method
to determine softening temperature of different thermoplastic
materials.
The temperature at which a flattened (i.e. perpendicular to axis) needle of 1 mm
2 circular cross section gets penetrated into a thermoplastic specimen of plain-flat surface to a depth of 1mm under a specific load using a selected uniform rate of temperature.
